Praying for our Kids Day 16 – Peace

“Father, let my children make every effort to do what leads to peace” (Romans 14:19).
Some days I am excited to write on a day’s topic and others I sit on it a long time. Today was one of those days. I had no words. I always pray for words from Father before I start writing but today I just sat here and stared ahead blankly. Thankfully, God’s Word has quite a bit to say in regards to peace.

“Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts” (2 Timothy 2:21-23). I find this verse very fitting as we’re praying for our kids. It touches on an issue so many kids struggle with when growing up while also directing them towards honorable behavior.

“Grace, mercy, and peace, which come from God the Father and from Jesus Christ—the Son of the Father—will continue to be with us who live in truth and love” (2 John 1:2-4). To make this a little easier to understand, I like to cut out the middle portion and read it like this, “Grace, mercy, and peace—will continue to be with us who live in truth and love”. I love the end of this verse… “who live in truth and love”. This helps me understand what a life of peace looks like.

“And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness” (James 3:17-18). What a beautiful picture this paints – righteousness coming from practicing peace in our lives.

“Now may the God of peace…” (Hebrews 13:20) Most importantly, Father is peace and we are called to live in peace. I want righteousness for my kids. I want them to live peaceful lives that are honoring to God. Peace isn’t talked about enough in our day to day lives. Let’s change that and pray peace over our babies today.
