Prayer for Egypt

Prayer for Egypt

With all of the hoopla in the media regarding the events of Egypt, there is a piece we are not hearing about.  Most of the attention is going towards the move from the more secular style government to a theocratic style similar to that of the Islamic Revolution of Iran.  Just days ago as masses were forming to protest, another group was forming.  This group was preaching Jesus, singing praises, and chanting slogans of praise to God.   For a video look at the gathering, check out the youtube link below.

This letter is from some friends of Heidi’s who are ministering in the the middle east.  They are traveling around the US raising awareness regarding the Christian plight in M. countries.  It is very exciting to see what the Lord is doing around the world.   We have someone we know who can keep us informed on an ‘up to the minute’ basis and from a side that is not normally presented on any news wires.

Dear Friends,

Greetings! We are in Denver this week and we had three opportunities over the weekend to share in different congregations about what is happening in Egypt and how it relates to Isaiah 19.
We had a wonderful time of sharing and prayer on the phone with Ayman yesterday. We called him while we were meeting with about 30 people from Faith Bible Chapel here in Denver. They had called for a prayer meeting for the situation in Egypt after their Sunday morning church service. We were able to join them for the prayer meeting, so we called Ayman and put him on the speaker-phone for everyone to listen. He shared for about 20 minutes about how things are going now in Cairo, then he led the group in prayer.
There was a very large demonstration again on Sunday in Tahrir Square. However, this time Christians from the large evangelical church in Tahrir Square led the thousands of people, both Christians and Muslims, in singing and in prayer for their nation. It was an amazing turn of events! (See the video link below.)
So much is happening in Egypt through this time of “shaking”. Truly, everything that can be shaken is being shaken. Ayman was expressing, though, his concern about the mere appearance of unity between Muslims and Christians that was displayed at Sunday’s demonstration. At the same time, others in Egypt are seeing what happened yesterday was a way for the Christians to publicly express their faith and hope in the Lord alone, as the One to help their nation and the Egyptian people. Please pray for the believers to have God’s heart and unity for any other such opportunities that may open up for before them in the coming days.
Today we also spoke with Refaat again. He leads the prayer movement across all of Egypt. Each evening now he is connecting by phone with other leadership in the prayer movement in other cities across Egypt to discuss about the situation in nation and what they need to be concentrate on in prayer. Here are the important points they are focusing on right now. He feels that things are getting better again overall in the nation and that the believers now need to take advantage of the return to some normalcy and stability.
1.) Light (Revelation): Please pray for God to show forth His light upon Egypt through the Egyptian believers as they go through this dark time. (Refaat said that he believes that this “light” relates directly to revelation about God and the truth of His Word.) He said that the believers are reading Isaiah 60:1-3 as to how it would relate to them as believers in the Messiah within Egypt during this situation:
“Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.” (Isaiah 60:1-3, NKJV)
2.) Houses of Prayer: Please pray for the Lord to raise up houses of prayer in Egypt and that the believers all across Egypt would become “a house of prayer” for the whole nation. Pray for the prayer movement to grow in strength and numbers through this crisis in Egypt. (Isaiah 19:19 says, “In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt.”)
3.) Preparing for the future: Pray that the believers in Egypt would see the importance of uniting together to prepare for the days to come. Generally they understand that this was a first “birth pang” of what is to come—and that there will be much more difficult and darker days as God’s judgements come upon Egypt according Isaiah 19. They now feel the need to prepare in every way they can for the future.

4.) Spirit of Repentance: Please pray for a spirit of godly repentance to come upon the Church and the whole nation as they reflect upon all that has happened. There has been much corruption revealed through this time of “shaking” and even within the Church there is a need for deep repentance and cleansing. Pray for the Lord to pour out a spirit of repentance, prayer and supplication as the Egyptian people realize their sin and rebellion against God.
5.) Shift in the Economy: Pray for the Lord to raise up those who would lead the nation through this time…and help to bring order and stability for the season of preparation that is needed. Pray for God to raise up “Josephs” and “Daniels” in the midst of Egypt, and even from outside of Egypt, who would come and help to bring a shift from the wicked controlling the economy within Egypt to those who know the Lord—and that they would use the wealth of Egypt for the Kingdom of God.
6.) New Law and Statutes:  Pray for the government as they are right now preparing to write “new laws and statutes” for Egypt coming out of this time of crisis. Pray for wisdom for the leaders who are writing these new laws and statutes—and pray, even, that God would sovereignly write by His own finger the laws and statutes that should now guide Egypt as a nation.
Urgent: – Just as I was finishing this email message I received an email from a trusted intercessor in Israel explaining that she is feeling the urgent need to pray for protection over Mubarak, because she feels there may be an assassination attempt being planned against him. So, please pray for his protection too!
We are so encouraged by all that the Lord is doing in the lives of the believers in Egypt. They are such a wonderful example to us of those who are filled with the Spirit—and faith, love and perseverance in the face of great trials and tribulations! What an honor to know them!!
Thank you again for all your prayers for Egypt and the believers there!
Love and Blessings,
Tom & Teresa
