Day 32 of 40 Days of Prayer for America

Target: National Unity
Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

Founding Father Quote: “…that Heaven may continue to you the choicest tokens of its beneficence that your union and brotherly affection may be perpetual; that the free Constitution which is the work of your hands may be sacredly maintained; that its administration in every department may be stamped with wisdom and virtue; that, in fine, the happiness of the people of these States, under the auspices of liberty, may be made complete by so careful a preservation and so prudent a use of this blessing as will acquire to them the glory of recommending it to the applause, the affection, and adoption of every nation which is yet a stranger to it.”
-From George Washington’s Farewell Address

Prayer: Lord, Your Word says that where two or more come together, there You are in the midst of them.  We come together now and thank You for all the good and perfect gifts You have given us.  We know that You are our only hope for national reform, and in You we move and live and have our being.  Without You we are nothing.  We ask You, Heavenly Father, to unite us as one nation under God again.  We need to become a strong united front for righteousness in our country so that we can defeat the foes that constantly plague us.  Instead of focusing on foreign enemies, we have turned inward and begun to fight amongst our own brothers.  Please forgive us for our foolish choices, for choosing petty arguments over harmony.  May we be reconciled to each other, and may Your love be the healing balm that makes this country great once again.  In Your Son’s Name we pray and ask.  Amen.

Day 27 of 40 Days of Prayer for America

Target: Reform
2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Founding Father Quote: “[T]he rational and peaceable instrument of reform, the suffrage of the people.” -Thomas Jefferson

Prayer: Heavenly Father, if we are Your children, we must lift the banner of Your commandments as the standard we unashamedly endorse, both in our public and private lives.  We must endorse the candidates You have put in a position of power by casting our ballots.  It is not only an honor and privilege to do so, but our duty as Christians.  May our judgment no longer be clouded by the mandates of the world, but may we begin to seek You with our whole heart, never settling for second-rate substitutes.  Send Your Holy Spirit to empower us as we seek complete reform in our nation’s infrastructure.  It is only by Your grace that we can prevail.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Target: Righteous Promotion
Proverbs 24:24-25 He who says to the wicked, “You are righteous,” him the people will curse; nations will abhor him.  But those who rebuke the wicked will delight, and a good blessing will come upon them.

Founding Father Quote: “A share in the sovereignty of the state, which is exercised by the citizens at large, in voting at elections is one of the most important rights of the subject, and in a republic ought to stand foremost in the estimation of the law.” –Alexander Hamilton

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the awesome privilege of participating in the governance of this great nation.  Forgive us for taking for granted our freedom to vote, thus neglecting our Christian duty to influence America in the direction of righteousness.  Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.  May the righteous be bold and take a stand, steering this country in a direction of Light, away from the darkness.  May America once again experience the blessings of Almighty God as we turn from our sinful ways.  We ask you, Lord, to lead us by Your truth towards our divine destiny as responsible, righteous citizens of the United States of America.

Day 23 of 40 Days of Prayer for America

Target: Voting in Local Elections

Proverbs 20:7 The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.

Founding Father Quote: “Now more than ever the people are responsible for the character of their Congress.  If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption.  If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature. . . . If the next centennial does not find us a great nation . . . it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.”  -James Garfield

Prayer: Lord, we must consider the future of America, the future of our children and grandchildren.  When the righteous man is silent or behaves like the wicked, the next generation can only live in destruction and disgrace.  We know that nothing is impossible with You, oh Lord, and we ask that You would forgive us and help us take our country back, to restore it to the great nation it once was.  May our children come to know the America that our grandparents enjoyed.  As we think of our pending national elections, may we not forget that the local elections are also of great importance to the strength of our country.  What we build on the local level affects our cities, our states and indeed our nation.  At this point in our history, we are no longer a truly united body of states.  May Your love once again unite us.  The victory alone is Yours, and we humbly ask that You go before us to pave the way for a bright future for those we love most, our precious children.  We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 22 of 40 Days of Prayer for America

Target: Consistency
Titus 1:7-9 …be blameless, as a steward of God, … hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.

Founding Father Quote: “The time has come that Christians must vote for honest men and take consistent ground in politics or the Lord will curse them. . . . Christians have been exceedingly guilty in this matter. But the time has come when they must act differently. . . . Christians seem to act as if they thought God did not see what they do in politics. But I tell you He does see it, and He will bless or curse this nation according to the course they [Christians] take [in politics].” -Charles Finney

Prayer: Lord, You are always just, merciful, loving and wise.  Your Word says that You are the same yesterday, today and forever.  You are unchanging and Your mercy is renewed for us each and every morning.  Your love for us never fails.  But we have failed You, and ask for Your forgiveness.  We have not been steadfast in our choices, always making the extra effort to stand for what is right and pure.  May we live according to the example You have sent in Your Word.  May our light so shine before men that all would see and know Your glory, that all would seek Your salvation.  We will no longer allow the mandates of society or busy schedules to allow us to slip into a place of complacency.  From this day forth, we choose to vote according to the commands found in Your Word.  We are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ!  Amen.
